Floral arrangements can be beautiful, mixing the right
combination of flowers to make a stunning presentation. Most wonder how
they themselves can make the gorgeous arrangements for their homes or
maybe even as gifts. There are many ways to purchase loose fresh
flowers, including at your local grocery store floral section. Arranging
yourself can definitely save you money over professional floral
arranging.
You would first have to decide which type of
arrangement you wish to make. Maybe you're making a bouquet as a gift or
a table arrangement as a centerpiece or other decorative conversation
piece. There are many different ways to present both types of
arrangements and that is where you can get very creative.
Picking
your flowers can be very fun. Consider if you want to make an
arrangement with a floral meaning (floriography) or just a generic color
scheme. You will need some key focal flowers, some that will draw the
eye to a particular point. Also, the arrangement needs to flow well.
That way, the eye will go to the focal point and then will flow around
the rest of the piece.
Use line pieces such as Snap Dragons and
filler pieces such as Baby's Breath to creative variation, spacing and
to make your arrangement fuller. You don't want to overcrowd the
arrangement because too many main pieces could overwhelm the piece.
Fillers are very useful for taking up that harsh blank space that you do
occasionally see.
Going back to color, it can be used to express
love, friendship, sympathy, happiness, etc... This was created during
the Victorian era and is growing back in popularity at this time. You
really can say it with flowers.
Using some branches found in your
backyard can serve as a back bone in your piece. There are certain
pieces that are very fragile and may not be able to stand on their own.
Maybe your piece just needs more support in it's entirety. You can even
make a simple or elaborate design by weaving the branches for another
effect! Using branches with leaves can easily add some green to your
arrangement as well as support. To use them, clip the branches and split
them a few inches up the center (from the bottom) to allow for water
absorption. This case, the leaves on the branches will not turn brown.
You
want your arrangement to have a sense of balance. Using a table top
lazy susan will help with this. Then, you will be able to see the piece
from all angles. Try to arrange the piece in your hands primarily. Don't
arrange the focal pieces or fillers into this, just the flowers that
will be around. Once you have the idea of what you want, put it into the
vase. From there, you can add your focal pieces to the middle and sides
of the arrangement as well as adding your fillers. Again, using the
lazy susan will help you to make sure your arrangement looks full and
lush.
From these very basic tips, you will be able to elaborate
and make your beautiful arrangement that you thought was only possible
through a florist. Give as gifts or place on your table for different
Holidays, they're fun and cost effective to create. People may even
think they're professional arrangements.
