What you will need:
glue gun and glue sticks
elastic
scissors
ruler or measuring tape
embellishments! (feathers, boa, ribbon, button, flowers...)
All of these items can be found at craft stores like Joann or Michaels.
Step 1:
Plug in your glue gun, and measure out your elastic.
I am using 1/8 wide inch elastic in this tutorial.
You can use this measurement guide for sizing.
Newborn (13 1/4")
3-6 Months (14 1/2")
6-12 Months (16")
12 Months-Teen (17 1/2")
Adult (18")
Be sure not to stretch your elastic as you measure it.
I find that it works best if you lay it flat against your measuring tape or ruler.
Step 2 (optional):
You may want to seal the edges on your elastic. You can do this with any open flame handy.
Just gently inch the elastic close to an open flame until you see the frayed edges singe inward.
WARNING: If you get it too close it will catch on fire.
Step 3:
Get your embellishments and felt backing ready.
I like to make my felt backing close to the same size as my flower or ribbon embellishment.
You can do this by simply placing it over a small piece of felt and cutting around the object. If you are a perfectionist you can first trace it with a pencil or fabric marker.
I usually cut a square, and then measure it against my cute embellishment.
Then I simply cut it into a circle.
Step 4:
Glue on your elastic.
I glued my elastic onto my flower first,
but you can glue onto your felt first and then add your embellishment.
Make sure the elastic overlaps about 1/4 inch.
Step 5:
Attach your felt backing!
Step 6:
Enjoy gazing at your cute creation.
Don't be afraid to get creative.
The best part is making it one of a kind by adding buttons, sparkles, ribbon, fluff.
